The Curious Case of Cutler for Cassel

A busy off season in Denver just got a LOT more interesting.

Reports surfaced last night that the Denver Broncos made a hard push to land quarterback Matt Cassel, offering up their first round pick (12th overall) for the QB, with the offer contingent on the Broncos first trading Pro Bowl quarterback, Jay Cutler. The likely destination for Cutler was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (although the Lions were apparently trying to orchestrate a similar deal) in exchange for a package of high round draft picks.

Broncos Continue Overhaul, Lock Up Dawkins

The Denver Broncos have reportedly finalized their deal with former Eagle, Brian Dawkins.

Yesterday, the Broncos jumped into free agency in a hurry, signing 5 free agents. Today, they decided to relax, inking just three more players to free agent deals.

Dawkins, the long time Eagle safety, received a five year deal, worth $17 million ($7.2 million guaranteed) and includes incentives that could tack an extra $10 million onto the contract.

Broncos Sign Buckhalter, Arrington and Gaffney

The Denver Broncos filled several needs in the first day of the free agent signing period, inking running backs Correll Buckhalter and J.J. Arrington and wide receiver Jabar Gaffney.

The team is also reportedly close to a deal with longtime Eagle safety, Brian Dawkins, who’s on his way to Denver to visit the team.
