Cutler Traded to Chicago Bears

by Ben Cook on April 2, 2009

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer is reporting that disgruntled Denver Bronco quarterback, Jay Cutler, has been traded to the Chicago Bears for two first-round picks, a third-round pick and quarterback Kyle Orton.

The relationship between Cutler and the Broncos was apparently irreparably damaged when news surfaced of a failed attempt to trade Cutler for former Patriot quarterback Matt Cassel. Several Bronco officials claim to have made several attempts to repair the relationship with the Pro-Bowl QB but were reportedly rebuffed by Cutler.

Cutler and his agent claim to have never received any such communication from the team, but whichever version is the truth, it appears that Cutler’s days in Denver are over.

If the reports are accurate, Chicago gave up quite a haul for an expensive but young quarterback who should provide the stability under center the Bears have lacked for years. It is unclear whether Orton will take over for Cutler as the Broncos starter but Denver may also opt to use a high draft pick on a new quarterback of the future, after trading away the player many thought would fill that roll for years to come.
