Update: The Jets increased their offer by a year to clinch the deal. The final deal wound up at 6 years, $48 million.

The New York Jets have reportedly offered Ravens linebacker Bart Scott a 5 year, $40 million deal.

Scott had previously been offered a 5 year deal to stay with the Ravens but told the team late last night that he wanted to test the free agent market, and it didn’t take long for offers to start coming in.

The troubled but tallented wide receiver is facing fellony charges stemming from an incident in which Burress accidentaly shot himself in the leg and could be sentenced to significant jail time if convicted.

Giants GM Jerry Reese stated “I hope he’s motivated, but the legal process is what’s most important right now and his health is what’s most important right now. But we’ll prepare as if he’s not going to be here, and if he is, it’s a bonus.”

Warner Likely Returning to Cardinals

Two time MVP quarterback Kurt Warner reportedly told the Arizona Republic that he’s leaning towards returning to the Cardinals for another year. His agent, was a bit more certain, saying the QB “wants to play, for sure.”

Starks Signs Steelers’ Franchise Tender

Starks had been tagged as the Steelers’ franchise player so the entire deal is automatically guranteed. The former backup was forced into a starter role when Marvel Smith struggled with back problems and Starks performed so well that the Steelers wanted to ensure he didn’t depart via free agency.
