Saints Release McAllister

by Ben Cook on February 17, 2009

The New Orleans Saints have released veteran running back Duece McAllister, saving the $5 million he was set to make this season.

Duece McAllister spent 8 years with the Saints, wracking up over 6,000 yards rushing, however he’s been plagued by knee injuries the past two seasons and has only managed 131 carries. Coupled with the emergence of Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas as a viable tandem in the backfield, McAllister became an expense the team simply couldn’t justify.

It’s been a bad week for veteran running backs, the Jaguars released Fred Taylor yesterday, and players named McAllister, the Ravens released Chris McAlister yesterday as well.
